One of my greatest rewards as a teacher is that I learn so much from my students. The complete innocence of the children and the life experiences of the adults humble me, and open me up to so many new ideas.

Even as a child I loved to draw. As an adult, my art is a reflection of my life, my travels and my passions. Mood and emotion play an important part in my work: I often work on a painting for days, then "abandon" it until I feel ready to paint again. My art consists of layers upon layers of paint, perhaps symbolic of the many places and peoples that I have encountered.

I often felt that the spoken word couldn't express my feelings as well as the written word. As a young child I read many of the old books in my parent's antique shop, and was inspired to begin journaling and writing poetry and short stories.
